In preparation for the Hubble, a series of ballon borne scopes were built and launched.

They had 30 inch primaries and were held in metal frames under a enormous helium ballon. The instrument had a folded Cassigrain design, with the cameras on the altitude bearing. A test enclosure was next to the building, accross the parking lot from the machine shop.
