Mars Colonization Vehicle (MCV) - An Earth-Mars Orbital Asteroid Transport for Mars Colonization

An asteroid can be intentionally driven into constant "slingshots" around Earth and Mars into an accelerated artificial "orbit", allowing it to become a massive "bus" between planets. This can be used with today's technology to create a means to explore and colonize Mars.

January 2007. Toshiba Exploravision.Mars Colonization Vehicle (MCV) - An Earth-Mars Orbital Asteroid Transport for Mars Colonization, Benjamin Torsten Jolitz and Rebecca Dawn Jolitz . The Mars Colonization Vehicle (MCV) is a permanent asteroid space station in a bielliptic stable Earth-Mars orbit with an 18-month period. By reusing elements of the NASA CEV, LSAM and EDS, we can reduce costs transiting to / from the asteroid while incrementally building a large facility and transport site capable of handling manufacturing, cargo and personnel safely. Additional areas of development required for this project are 1) nuclear thruster capable of adjusting the course of an asteroid, 2) complicated orbital simulation systems and 3) a complete survey of asteroids. The benefits of the MCV are manifest: equipment reuse with existing space programs, large-scale infrastructure development experience prior to colonization and timely predictable flybys of Earth / Mars. The MCV can transport the resources needed to live on Mars without exposing personnel to radiation damage. We anticipate the MCV will deliver the first Mars colonists by 2026.
